Managing the Visualization of Simulation Entities

You can show or hide different kinds of entities (geometries, meshes) or simulation categories (model, scenario, results) while you are working in a simulation.

You can manage the visibility of entities from either the tree or the Visibility Manager dialog box. Using the Visibility Manager allows you to make changes to visibility in a quick and optimized way (for example, by automatically hiding a product to hide all its children).

This task shows you how to:

Manage Simulation Entities from the Visibility Manager

You can manage simulation entities from the Visibility Manager dialog box.

  1. From the Display section of the action bar, click Visibility Manager .
The Visibility Manager dialog box appears and lists the entities or simulation categories in which you can change the visibility.
  2. For the features whose visibility you want to change, click an available visibility option.
    OptionDescription
Show Activates the visibility of all the selected representations (geometry, FEM model, or other) found in the whole model.
Hide Deactivates the visibility of all the selected representations (geometry, FEM model, or other) found in the whole model.
Show current Activates the visibility of the actively edited FEM, shape, or the shape containing the support for the actively edited mesh part.
(Contributing) When accessible (depending on the context and the selected object type), activates the visibility of the following objects:
    • For Shapes: the contributing shapes
    • For FE Model: the contributing FE models and the current FE model
    • For Connection: the included connections

Note: Changing the visibility of a subset of all objects of a given type does not change the visibility state of the remainder of the set or the visibility state of objects of other types.

The Hide all but context menu entry is an exception to this rule.

The app retains your visibility state settings when you close the dialog box. You can either reopen the dialog box or use the tree to make further changes to the object visibility.

Manage Simulation Entities from the Tree

You can manage simulation entities from the tree. The context menus and submenus differ depending on which type of object you select.

  1. Optional: To change the visibility of a product or part, right-click the product or part in the tree and select an option:
    OptionDescription
Show Activates visibility of the selected child representations of a product or part.
Hide Hides the visibility of the selected child representations of a product or part.
Hide all but Hides all objects except the selected child representations of a product or part.
  2. Optional: To change the visibility of a FEM, right-click the FEM in the tree and select an option:
    OptionDescription
Show Activates visibility of the selected representation or the contributing 3DShapes.
Show Only Activates the visibility only of the selected FEM and hides all other objects.
Hide all But Hides all objects except the selected FEM or the contributing 3D shapes.
  3. Optional: To change the visibility of an external representation, right-click the external representation in the tree and select an option:
    OptionDescription
Show Activates visibility of the selected representation or the contributing external representations.
Show Only Activates the visibility only of the selected representation and the specified entities, and hides all other objects.
Hide all But Hides all objects except the selected representation or the contributing external representations.
  4. Optional: To change the visibility of 3D shapes or abstraction shapes, right-click a 3D shape or abstraction shape in the tree and select an option:
    OptionDescription
Show Only Activates the visibility only of the selected representation, and hides all other objects.
Show Meshes Activates the visibility of the Nodes and Elements of the FEMs to which the selected object contributes.

This option is ideal for smaller models.

Show FE Models Activates the visibility of the FEMs to which the selected object contributes.

This option is ideal for larger models.

  5. Optional: To show all or hide all objects at once, right-click the background of the 3D area, and select an option:
    OptionDescription
Hide All Hides all specified objects present in the model.
Show All Shows all specified objects present in the model.

The visibility of the objects changes accordingly.
