Using Cutting Planes

You can cut a 2D or 3D mesh or model along a plane.


Before you begin: Create a 2D or 3D mesh in the finite element model representation.

  1. From the Display section of the action bar, click Sectioning .
    The Sectioning Definition dialog box appears and the model is cut.
    Warning: The cutting by plane visualization does not work correctly when several instances of finite element representations are loaded in session.
  2. Select X, Y, or Z to specify the cutting plane.

    The cutting plane is the plane normal to the selected axis. For example, select X to cut along the YZ-plane.

  3. Move the cut plane in the direction of the selected axis by dragging and dropping the cutting section as shown below.


  4. To display the other side of the cut, click Reverse.
  5. To cut exactly where you drag the cursor, select Exact mesh cut.
  6. Click Close.
