Visualizing Node and Element Numbers

You can display and retrieve the node and element numbers that identify components in your mesh. In addition, you can use separate color labels when displaying nodes and elements simultaneously.


Before you begin:

A node and element numbering scheme must exist in the mesh.

  1. From the Display section of the action bar, click Numbering Visualization .
  2. Specify whether you want to display numbering for nodes or elements.
  3. For elements, select Display node numbering to display node numbering along with element labels.

    Click the Color Label field to the right of Display node numbering to select a new color for the node labels. To aid visualization, this color can be different from the one you choose for the element labels.

  4. Select the entities for which you want to display ID numbers.

    The Select toolbox allows you to choose a selection method for adding entities.

    Note: The available methods depend on whether you are displaying numbers for nodes or elements.
    • Click to select entities manually.
    • Click to create a bounding box and to include only the entities that are within the box.
    • Click to create a bounding box and to include the entities that are within or intersected by the box.
    • Click , and choose a 2D element from the model. In the toolbox that appears, specify a propagation angle and click Propagate to propagate your selection to all suitable entities in the model.

  5. To locate individual nodes or elements by their numbers, enter the numbers in the Labels field.

    You can enter multiple numbers or number ranges to locate multiple nodes or elements. Use commas or semicolons to separate entries.

  6. Click the Color Label field to select a new color for the number labels.
    The Color Chooser appears. Use one of the methods in the chooser to pick a new label color.
    Tip: Expand Custom colors to add selected colors to a color palette for use with your models.
  7. Click OK.
