Creating Named Display Groups for Use as Supports for Resultant Sensors

You can use named display groups as a support type for resultant sensors when calculating forces and moments in the interior of the model.

Named display groups are convenient tools to combine elements and nodes into a single feature. The nodes are used to locate the free body cut, whereas the elements indicate on which side of the cut to apply the force. You can create node sets in the center of a component where none existed before.

Before you begin: You must have a simulation with field output results.

  1. Click the model, and from the context toolbar that appears, click Display group .
  2. From the Display group context toolbar, click Keep or Remove to keep or remove a region of the model.
  3. Click Select by Element , and select a region of the model to expose a cross-section of the component.
  4. Click Select by Nodes, and select the nodes where resultant sensor output is required.
  5. Click Create new display group to create a named display group consisting of the elements and nodes you selected.
  6. Enter a Name for the display group, and click OK.
The named display group containing the selected elements and nodes on the cross-section is now available for Support selection from Resultant Sensors.
