About Field Expressions

Field expressions allow you to create custom field data for use in visualization. You can define custom fields as mathematical expressions referencing regular result fields or other field expressions.

User-defined field expressions can be used in place of regular fields. Valid field expressions are available to you when you perform the following visualization tasks:

• Displaying Contour, Isocontour, and Symbol Plots
• Exporting Field Data
• Creating an X-Y Plot from a Path
• Creating and Plotting Field Sensors
• Creating Cutting Surfaces of type isosurface

The following limitation applies to the use of field expressions in Physics Results Explorer:

• Field expressions that do not reference field data from the simulation are not available for visualization within Physics Results Explorer.
