Creating Mass Sensors

You can create mass sensors to measure the mass and volume of your model.

Before you begin: The simulation must be complete.
  1. From the Sensors section of the action bar, click Mass Sensor .
The Mass Sensor dialog box appears.
  2. Optional: Enter a Name for the mass sensor.
  3. If your model lacks a material density definition, check Default density used when undefined, and enter a value.
  4. Select a type of geometry support as the region of the model for the sensor to measure:
    OptionDescription
Whole model Sensor measurement applies to the entire model.
Group Sensor measurement applies only to a named group of mesh objects.
Named Group Sensor measurement applies only to a named display group.
  5. Select a Step, Load case, and Frame.
  6. Select one or more of the following parameters for the sensor to measure:
    OptionDescription
Mass Sensor tracks the mass value for the selected geometry support.
Volume Sensor tracks the volume value for the selected geometry support.
For each part Sensor tracks the mass and/or volume value for each part when Whole model is the support. The values for each part are displayed in the List object within the Mass Sensor container of the tree.
  7. Optional: If you are measuring values for each part, double-click List.<n> in the tree.
The mass and volume values are listed for each part in the whole model.

The Mass Sensors tab of the Feature Manager displays results for the steps, load cases, frames, mass, and volume. The mass and volume parameters are also displayed in the tree.
