Combining Load Cases

You can combine two or more load cases from your simulation and find the sum of values for selected field output values.

You can edit the scale factor for the entire analysis case, a specific step, or particular load cases within a step. You can then visualize the combined load case data when you create a contour, isocontour, or symbol plot.

  1. From the Calculations section of the action bar, click Combined Load Case .
The Combined Load Case dialog box appears.
  2. Optional: Enter a Name for the combined load case.
The name appears as the Envelope Name in the Feature Manager, in the tree, and in the Envelope list in the Create Plot dialog boxes.
  3. Optional: Filter the display of available steps and load cases.

Type the name or part of the name of the load case to narrow the choices.

  4. Optional: Check or uncheck boxes in the tree to include or exclude the entire analysis case, a specific step, or particular load cases within a step.
  5. Optional: In the boxes adjacent to the selected tree elements, adjust the scale factor for the entire analysis case, a specific step, or particular load cases within a step:
    • Assigning the scale factor to the analysis case applies that scale factor to all linear load cases in all steps.
    • Assigning the scale factor to a particular step applies that scale factor to all linear load cases in that step. If the scale factor corresponding to the step editors differ, then the scale factor of the analysis case is not displayed.
    • Assigning the scale factor to a single load case of a particular step suppresses the display of the scale factor of both the step and the analysis case.
The Combined Load Case dialog box indicates how many load cases you have selected, "Selected linear load cases: n".
  6. Click OK.

Combined linear load case results are now available for visualization when selected from the Plot creation dialog boxes.
