General Principles

You can define the position of a resource on first-level operations or on operation steps.

Important: If no resource usage is defined, you cannot change the position. For more information, see Add a New Resource Usage.

When defining a position, you have to specify the Referential and the Applicability of the resource.

Referential
The referential indicates the resource positioning in relation either to the Implemented Item, the Build-Up, or the Layout.
Applicability
The applicability indicates where the resource positioning ends.
You have different options when defining the applicability; it behaves differently depending on whether the applicability is defined on a first-level operation or an operation step.

Applicability of Resource Positioning on First-Level Operations

The applicability for a position defined on a first-level operation can be Header Operation or Continuous.

General Rules

Defining a resource position on a first-level operation definitively replaces positions of previous first-level operations and operation steps.

Header Operation

The resource position is applied on the first-level operation but not on the next ones.

Continuous

The resource position is applied on the first-level operation and all the next ones.

Applicability of Resource Positioning on Operation Steps

The applicability for a position defined on a first-level operation can be Operation Step, Header Operation, or Continuous.

General Rules

Defining a resource position on an operation step definitively replaces positions of previous operation steps.

It can also temporarily override positions defined on first-level operations as long as its applicability is valid and it is not replaced by a following operation.

Operation Step

The resource position is applied on the operation step but not on the next ones.

Header Operation

The resource position is applied on the operation step and all the next ones until the end of the first-level operation.

Continuous

The resource position is applied on the operation step and all the next first-level operations.

Releasing a Position

General Rules

The release of a position applies at the end of the operation.

First-Level Operation

Releasing a position on a first-level operation discards the positions of previous first-level operations or operation steps (even if the applicability was Continuous).

Operation Step

Releasing a position on an operation step discards positions of previous operation steps and restores the resource position defined on the first-level operation.

If the first-level operation has no resource position defined, the resource position returns to its layout position.

User Cases

Tips:
  • Process: It can be a workplan or a system.
  • Header Op X: It is a first-level operation.
  • Op Step X: It is an operation step.
  • PosX - X: It is the resource position and its applicabilities which can be:
    • HO: Header Operation
    • OS: Operation Step
    • C: Continuous
  • PosX - R: When releasing a resource position.

Case 1



In the example above, the applicable rules are for:

  • The resource position Pos1 - HO is applied only on the first-level operation Header Op 1 until it is overridden by the resource position Pos2 - C applied on the operation step Op Step B.
  • The resource position Pos2 - C is applied on the operation step Op Step B and all the next first-level operations until it is replaced by the resource position Pos3 - OS applied on the operation step Op Step E.
  • The first-level operation Header Op 2 has no resource position defined, that is why the position defined on the operation step Op Step F is the resource Layout position.
  • The resource position Pos5 - C is applied on the first-level operation Header Op 3 and all the next ones, but is temporarily overridden by the resource position Pos4 - OS applied only on the operation step Op Step H.
