Multi-Assigning and Unassigning Items Using the Assistant

You can assign a manufacturing item that is already assigned to a system to another system using the System Assignment Assistant. You can also unassign manufacturing items assigned to operations.

Multi-Assign Items in Context to a Target System

You can Multi-Assign Provided parts and Fasten steps in context to a target system.

  1. From the Authoring section of the action bar, click System Assignment Assistant and select a system.
    The System Assignment Assistant dialog box appears.
  2. Select Assignable provides / fastens in context and All operations in the lists on the left side of the assistant.
  3. Select a target system and All operations in the list on the right side of the assistant.
  4. Select an unassigned item in the Products frame on the left side of the assistant.
    The left to right Multi-Assign command is disabled.
  5. Select an assigned item in the Products frame on the left side of the assistant.
  6. Click the left to right Multi-Assign command.
    The item is assigned to the target system. In the tree, a new operation is created under the target system.
  7. Select multiple items using the Ctrl key.
  8. Click the left to right Multi-Assign command.
    All the selected items are assigned to the target system. In the tree, new operations are created under the target system.
  9. Select combination of items in the left products frame that are assigned and not assigned using the Ctrl key.
  10. Click the left to right Multi-Assign command.
    Only the selected items are assigned to the target system. In the tree, new operations are created under the target system.

Multi-Assign an Item from a Source System to a Target System

You can Multi-Assign an item when source and target systems are clicked in the lists of the System Assignment Assistant.

  1. From the Authoring section of the action bar, click System Assignment Assistant and select a system.
    The System Assignment Assistant dialog box appears.
  2. Select a system in the list on the left side of the assistant and another system in the list on the right side of the assistant.
  3. Select an item in the left Products frame.
  4. Click the left to right Multi-Assign command.
    The item is assigned to the target system. In the tree, a new operation is created under the target system.
  5. Select multiple items in the left Products frame.
  6. Click the left to right Multi-Assign command.
    The selected items are assigned to the target system. In the tree, new operations are created under the target system.

Multi-Assign an Item When a Specific Operation Is Selected

You can Multi-Assign an item when certain specifications are met. First, you must click a source system and a specific operation in the list on the left side of the assistant. Then, you must click a target system in the list on the right side of the assistant.

  1. From the Authoring section of the action bar, click System Assignment Assistant and select a system.
    The System Assignment Assistant dialog box appears.
  2. Select a system and a specific operation instead of All operations in the list on the left and another system in the list on the right side of the assistant.
  3. Select an item in the left Products frame.
  4. Click the left to right Multi-Assign command.
    The item is assigned to the target system. In the tree, a new operation is created under the target system.

Unassign Items

You can unassign an item from an operation. You can also delete the operation afterward, if all the links to the items are deleted.

Before you begin: Select the Assign under selected General operation check box in Me > Preferences > Manufacturing Planning > System Editor.
  1. From the Authoring section of the action bar, click System Assignment Assistant and select a system.
  2. Select Not Assigned and All operations in the lists on the left side of the assistant.

  3. Select a system and All operations in the lists on the right side of the assistant.
  4. Select an assigned item in the Products frame on the right side of the assistant.
  5. Click the right to left Multi-Assign command.
    The link between the item and operation is deleted.
  6. To delete the operation, click Delete.
    The operation is removed from the tree and session.

Tip: To unassign all the assignments in single shot, select Assignable provides/fasteners in context and All operations in the lists on the left side of the assistant. Then select all the items to unassign and click the right to left Multi-Assign command.
