About Cooling Circuits and Runners

Below are some information about the creation of Cooling Circuits and Runners.

This page discusses:

Cooling Circuits

  • A Cooling Circuit is a set of Cooling Channels.
  • A Cooling Channel of a Drilled Cooling Circuit is materialized by a straight hole between two points. It is linked to an invisible Drill Hole (the one required to drill the Cooling Channel).
  • A Cooling System is a typed part that aggregates one or several Cooling Circuits.
  • Connector Plugs and O Rings may be required to seal the Cooling Circuit.
  • A Cooling Part is a product belonging to the Tooling Flow discipline.
  • A Cooling Circuit created before V6R2013x cannot be edited nor deleted.

To create a Cooling Circuit, you need to activate a valid part:

  • A Cooling Part or a product containing a Cooling Part: The Cooling Circuit is created in this Cooling Part.
  • A Cooling System or a product containing a Cooling System: The Cooling Circuit is created in the Cooling Part found under the Cooling System.
  • A Core Print or a Cavity Print, an Ejection Side or an Injection Side: The Cooling Circuit is created in the Cooling Part found under them.
  • An Insert Unit, a Multiple Layout Insert or a Mold Project: The Cooling Circuit is created in the Cooling Part found under the Core Print, if it exists, or under the Cavity Print otherwise.
If the active product is not one of those described above, an error message is displayed.

Supported Input

Runner, Drilled Cooling Circuit and Conformal Cooling Circuit support the following input elements.

Point
You can:
  • Select a point to initialize the position of the Robot to create a Cooling Circuit in Conformal Cooling Circuit and Runner.
  • In Drilled Cooling Circuit, you cannot select a point, only move the Robot on a point to create a Cooling Circuit.
Notes:
  • Use the Robot to draw a 3D contour, in particular to quickly draw a line.
  • You cannot select points from a sketch or from a Natural Shape feature.
Line
You can select a line to create a Cooling Circuit, in particular to create a simple Bubble or Baffle in Drilled Cooling Circuit.
Polyline
You can select a polyline to create a Cooling Circuit
Sketch
Runner, Drilled Cooling Circuit and Conformal Cooling Circuit support sketches containing lines as input. Lines can be continuous or not. Each line generates one Cooling Circuit or one Runner without junctions, even if the lines are continuous.
Note: Sketches containing only points are not supported.
Natural Shape Feature
You can select a Natural Shape feature that contains wireframe elements. Each wireframe element generates one Cooling Circuit or one Runner without junctions, even if the wireframe elements are continuous.
Note: You cannot select a Natural Shape feature
  • That contains only points.
  • That contains a solid (even if it also contains a wireframe element).
  • That contains a surface (even if it also contains a wireframe element).

All result features are associative with the input data. More precisely:

  • When the contour is modified (extremities of segments change without modifying the topology of the contour, the result is automatically updated.
  • When a portion of the contour is removed, the result is broken after update. A message is displayed.
    • Close the message window.
    • Restart the command.
    • The result is rebuilt and takes the suppression into account.
  • When a portion is added to the contour:
    • Restart the command.
    • The result is rebuilt and takes the addition into account.
