Creating Sew Surfaces

Sewing is a Boolean operation combining a surface with an existing element.

It is available with hybrid bodies, geometrical sets and ordered geometrical sets. You can sew a given surface onto an existing support. It adds or removes surface by modifying the existing element.

Before you begin: Create two surfaces.
  1. From the Idealize section of the action bar, click Sew Surface .
  2. In the Support surface box, select the surface onto which the other will be sewed.

  3. In the Object to sew box, select the surface to be sewed.
An arrow appears indicating the side where material will be added or kept. Click this arrow to reverse the direction.

  4. In the Deviation box, choose the deviation tolerance computation mode.
    OptionDescription
None No tolerance is considered for the feature computation.
Automatic The result is computed with a default tolerance value which depends on the scale selected in the Design Range list box on the Design Limits area in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > Parameters, Measures, and Units > Units:
    • Small range: 0.001
    • Normal range: 0.1
    • Large range: 10
Manual In the Max Deviation text box, you can specify a user-defined tolerance.
  5. Click OK.
The surface is sewn onto the object.
