Performing a Local Join

You can join two edges topologically.

  1. From the Assemble section of the action bar, click Local Join .

The box on the right of Automatic Merging is at zero.

  2. Select the edges to join.

    Tips:
    • Double-click Add Mode or Remove Mode, to make the chosen mode permanent, that is, successively selecting elements adds or removes them.
    • Click only once, only the next selected element is added or removed.
    • Click the button again, or click another one, to deactivate the mode.
    • You can input any feature that can be a list of edges (join, near, extract,...).

Automatic Merging is now available and updated with a distance value. This distance value is the distance computed between the edges at that they may be joined.

  3. Select Automatic Join/Heal and click Automatic Merging.
Heal Merging distance is now available, with its value updated at the proposed Automatic Merging value.
  4. Set Heal Parameters Continuity to Tangent in the Healing Option dialog box. Click Close when done.
  5. Click Apply and select the Visualization tab.
The number of elements found is listed. The check boxes Output information and Input information are selected but no information appears on the screen, meaning no gap over the tolerance has been found.

By default, only the Surface boundaries check box is selected. Only the surface boundaries are displayed in the work area, in green.

  6. Double-click any color patch to start the color editor.
  7. Select the Joined edges and the Unjoined edges check boxes.
The corresponding elements are displayed in blue and red in the work area.
  8. Click OK.
    A LocalJoin.x body is created.
  9. Restart Local Join. Select those edges, select Join and click Apply.

Note: Local Join is modal. The parameters you have entered are proposed again.

A message warns you that some input elements are invalid. The Automatic Merging value remains at zero, meaning that Local Join could not compute a connection distance.
  10. Click OK in the message box.
