Creating an Engineering Template Containing Meta Inputs

You can create an engineering template containing meta inputs.

Note: Meta inputs are designed to group inputs to avoid mass-selection at instantiation and reduce the number of clicks.

Before you begin: Import and open the .3dxml file you are working on.
  1. From the Compass, click 3D Modeling Apps and select Engineering Templates.
  2. Type the name of the template and click OK.
    The Engineering Template tab opens.
  3. In the Components tab, click Add reference.
  4. Enter a product name in the top bar and click Search.
  5. Select it from the list and click OK.
  6. In the Unchanged Components section, select your assembly, and click the up arrow.
  7. Click the Inputs tab and click Add.
  8. Click a component in the tree and select the inputs in the Select inputs dialog box.
  9. Click the Meta Inputs tab to create the meta inputs.
  10. Click Add to create a meta input. Change its name in the Name box.
  11. In the Remaining Inputs section, select the desired inputs and click the up arrow to associate them to the meta input.
  12. In the Parameters tab, select Description from the list located in the Components Attributes section. Rename it.
  13. Save your template and close it.
