Linking a 3D Thumbnail to an Engineering Template

You can associate a 3D thumbnail with an engineering template. The thumbnail displayed corresponds with an engineering template component's thumbnail.

  1. From the Compass, click 3D Modeling Apps and select Engineering Templates.
  2. Type the name of the template and click OK.
    The Engineering Templates tab opens.
  3. In the Components tab, click Add reference.
  4. Enter the name of the product you are looking for and click Search.
  5. Select it from the list and click OK.
  6. In the Unchanged Components section, select your assembly and click the up arrow. Save your work.
  7. Select a 3D Shape displaying a 3D thumbnail in the template list of components then click Associate 3D Thumbnail to Template to link to the thumbnail to the template.
    The thumbnail is associated with the engineering template.
  8. Search for the template.
    The templates and the thumbnails are displayed in the result list.

Notes:
  • If you export your template to 3D XML format, the link between the thumbnail and the template is lost.
  • The association between an engineering template and a thumbnail can only be made manually.
  • All modifications of thumbnails are saved when running the command.
  • The modification of the 3D thumbnail associated with the template is not automatically reflected on the template. If you want the new thumbnail to be displayed, click Associate 3D Thumbnail to Template to associate it with the template.
