Product Representation Reference (3D Shape, Drawing, Markup)

The Product modeler creates several types of representation references. The most commonly used are the 3D Shape, the drawing, and the markup.

This page discusses:

3D Shape

3D Shape Definition

Since the shapes and geometries of a product do not belong to the Product modeler, but to the Part modeler, the representation object is split in two objects:
  • a 3D Shape representation reference in the Product modeler (described below)
  • a shape object in the Part modeler

3D Shape Creation

A 3D Shape can be created in two ways:

3D Shape of 3D Part
When creating a 3D Part (reference), a 3D Shape of 3D Part (representation reference) is automatically created and aggregated.

3D Shape
At any time, a 3D shape (representation reference) can be created. It can then be instantiated in a 3D Part, or in a product.

Important: The product range must be identical for the 3D Part and the 3D Shape.

Nonshared Representation Reference

By default, a representation reference is defined as "nonreusable" and can have only one instance. To create several instances of a representation reference, this representation reference must be defined as "reusable" (this operation is irreversible). For more information, see Representation Reference.
