Linking a User Feature Instance to its Reference

You can create a link between a user feature instance and its reference using User Feature Link Manager.

Note: Use the User Feature Link Manager to create a link between the instance and the reference when this link is missing, which happens if:
  • The user feature was instantiated before V6R2012.
  • The Properties > Set Reference/Instance link option was cleared when creating the user feature.

Before you begin:
  • To access the models used in this topic, import the Bounding_Box_Reference_000.3dxml and the Bounding_Box_Destination_000.3dxml files located in win_b64\startup\Knowledgeware\3D Templates Samples\Sample1.
  • Unselect the Set Reference/Instance link option in the Properties tab of the User Feature Definition dialog box when creating the user feature.

About the User Feature Synchronization
  1. Instantiate the user feature in the destination product using Instantiation from Selection .
  2. In the Insert Object dialog box, select the appropriate inputs and click OK.
    The user feature is instantiated.
  3. Click the instantiated user feature in the tree and click User Feature Link Manager .
  4. In the User Feature Link Manager window, click the User Feature References cell.
The user feature reference suggestions cell displays the available user feature references.
Note: The dialog box displays the user feature instances of the current document. The suggestions displayed are based on all user feature references loaded in session as well as on the external view naming. Therefore, you cannot link a user feature instance to a user feature reference whose external view was changed after instantiation.
  5. Select a reference and click Apply Link to create the link between the instance and the reference and Close.
    The link is created.
