Displaying and Modifying Dimensions of a Feature directly

You can quickly display and modify a feature's dimensions in the work area, i. e. its length parameters (length, diameter and radius), angle parameters and fillet parameters.

When passing over a dimension, the feature provides handles allowing to modify its value dynamically. During the value modification, a length or angle ruler is displayed whose graduation allows a better value display and simplifies the modification control.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: This capability is available on surfaces, solids and volumes. Create a 3D shape containing features of this type. In the examples shown are used a filleted pad, a revolution surface, and an extruded surface.

Edit Feature Parameters using Handles

You can modify parameters displayed on the geometry in the work area when editing a feature by double-clicking it in the tree.

  1. Double-click a feature, e. g. a filleted pad, in the tree to display the Pad Definition dialog box.


    The Pad Definition dialog box is displayed and parameters and handles appear at the geometry.
  2. Drag the handle to modify the length.


    When modifying the angle parameter, a ruler appears to give you visual feedback. It cannot be manipulated.
    Tip: A ruler also appears when modifying an angle parameter, e. g. at a revolution surface:

    In the Pad Definition dialog box, the Length values are updated dynamically.

  3. Click the arrow to swap First Limit and Second Limit.


  4. Click OK to save the changes or press Esc to undo the changes and exit the command.

Edit Parameters using the Context Menu

You can modify parameters of a feature using the Edit Parameters contextual item.

  1. Right-click a feature, e. g. an extruded surface, in the tree.
  2. Select Extrude.x object > Edit Parameters.
    In the work area, the parameters are displayed with their values.

  3. Drag an arrow to modify the feature's dimensions.


  4. Click Update in the action bar to adopt the modifications or press Esc to discard them.

    Tip: If the Parameters of features and constraints option in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > Object Properties > 3D Shape> Display, 3D Shape Infrastructure area, Display in geometry area section, is selected, the Edit Parameters dialog box appears where you can select the Permanent display of parameters with value option. In the dialog box,
    • click OK to preserve the parameters' display and continue modifying parameters, or
    • click Cancel to hide parameters and terminate the modification.
