Exporting Measures Created Under 3D Shapes

Once you have created a measure, you can export the result of the measurement as geometry.

Before you begin: Once you have created a measure in the tree using either the Measure Item or Measure Between command the Export tab becomes available. You can now export the result of the measure.
  1. In the Measure Item in Part or the Measure Between in Part dialog box, click the Export tab.
    • If you used Measure Item to measure a line, the Extreme point 1 and Extreme point 2 check boxes appear in the Geometry to be created section of the Export tab.

    • If you used Measure Item to measure any geometric entity other than a line, the Center of gravity check box appears in the Geometry to be created section of the Export tab.

    • If you used Measure Between, the First point, Second point, and Line check boxes appear in the Geometry to be created section of the Export tab.

You can see that the Geometry to be created section of the tab page changes depending on the command you used and, in the case of Measure Item, on the entity you measured.
  2. Clear any of the items in the Geometry to be created section if you do not want that particular geometrical item to be created.

However, if no items are checked, the Create geometry button at the bottom of the tab page is grayed out and cannot be used.

  3. In the Associativity section, either leave Associative, the default option, selected or select the Non-associative option:
    • Associative

When you create a point, three formulas are created simultaneously inside the relation set. For more information, refer to the Knowledge Advisor User's Guide: Working with Parameters: Creating an Associative Link Between Measures and Parameters. These three formulas link the measure knowledge parameters to the parameters of the created points. If you create a line using the Measure Between command, a line is created in the tree with two points underneath it. These two points are linked to the measure parameters based on the relations displayed inside the relation sets. In this way, the created points or lines are linked to the measure that created them. So, if the measure were to be changed, the point or line will be updated accordingly.
Important: All relations created in this way are in user mode. Modification is therefore possible.
    • Non-associative

The created geometry is not linked to the measure (indicated in the tree by the symbol ). As there is no link to the measure, no relation is created.
  4. Select the Create geometry button at the bottom of the tab page. The created geometry will be created inside the same geometrical set (or PartBody) where the measure is located.
  5. Click OK.

Important:
  • Hidden measures can be exported.
  • If you export the same geometry more than once, the names of the exported geometry items will be distinguished incrementally.
  • If you make geometry changes then export a measure, the exported measure will not be up-to-date.
  • You cannot use the Undo or Redo commands to cancel or repeat the export of a Measure Between item.
  • Create geometry cannot be used for a minimum distance of zero mm. If you attempt to do so, an error message will appear: There was an error during the export. The process has been stopped and the geometry may not have been completely created. A line with two overlapping or identical points cannot be created. Workaround: Uncheck the Line option in the Geometry to be created section of the tab page then select the Create geometry button.
  • If you have set a preference (via Me > Preferences > Content Access > Identification tab) for a specific prefix to be added to all new PLM objects, this will not be reflected in the name of the newly created geometry such as points and lines.
  • If you delete a measure after exporting, the effect on the created geometry depends on whether it is associative or not. If it is associative, the effect is the same as that on any object in CATIA linked with Knowledge relations. You can choose to delete the child objects i.e. the created geometry or not. If the created geometry is non-associative, there is no effect following deletion.
