Assembling Bodies

You can assemble different bodies to create complex geometry.

Note: Depending on your role, you may not have access to this functionality.

Before you begin: Open a 3D shape representation with a positive or a negative body.

About Boolean Operations
  1. From the Structure or the Essentials section of the action bar, click Assemble .
    The Assemble dialog box appears.
  2. In the Assemble box, select the body to be assembled.

You can check the polarity of the body in the tree where a plus sign appears alongside a positive body.

  3. In the To box select another body with which the earlier selected body will be assembled.

By Default, it is proposed to assemble the selected body with PartBody if no other body exists in the tree.

    • The body is assembled with the PartBody and the material is added or removed depending upon the polarity of the first selected body.
    • A new node denoting the Boolean operation, Assemble.x, is now included in the tree under the PartBody node. The body is moved under the Boolean operator node in the tree. See Location of Operating Bodies in Boolean Operations.
    Important:
    • Avoid using input elements that are tangent to each other since this may result in geometric instabilities in the tangency zone
    • Editing an assemble feature is possible. To do so, double-click that feature and then edit the parameters.
