Managing Traces

You can use traces to record in real time the states of ports during an experience execution.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Execute a system experience. For more information, see Executing a System Experience.

Prepare a Trace

You can select the ports to be traced.

  1. From the Execution section of the action bar, click Open Experience Tree .
  2. In the Experience Tree, select the ports to be traced and clear the ports to be untraced from the Trace column.

Tip: To trace all the ports of a hierarchical port, select the hierarchical port in the Trace column.

Start a Trace

You can start the trace execution to record each state modification of the traced ports.

Important: To be able to manage a trace, you need to previously click Trace from the layers monitor.

For example, perform this action before hiding a trace or zooming a trace.

Before you begin: Select ports to be traced.

For more information, see the above task.

  1. To start recording at a certain time, do as follows:
    1. To start execution, click Play from the Execution section of the action bar.
    2. To start the trace record, click Record Traced Variables from the Trace section of the action bar.
Note: If you want to start recording from the beginning of the execution, start previous substeps in the reverse order.
  2. To get values to be recorded, change the values of ports by manipulating the probes or using the 2D panels associated with the experience.
  3. To stop the trace record, click Record Traced Variables .
The recorded trace appears. By default, the monochart mode is activated and all curves are plotted on the same graph.
  4. To plot curves on one graph or on different graphs, click Switch Charts .

    Notes:
    • To show or hide a curve in any graph, click the name of the curve in the legend. When a curve is hidden, its name appears blurred. In multichart mode, hidden traces are moved below displayed traces.
    • In multichart mode, to move up or down a curve among other curves, click or .
    • To follow simultaneously the evolution of curves, click in the graph to display a cursor line.

Irrespective of the selected the mode, curves stay linked and synchronized.
  5. To start another record, click Record Traced Variables and change the values of ports again.

Note: Click Update Trace to refresh the content of the trace display with a new record.

  6. Optional: Zoom in and out to change the scale display.

    To zoom...You can...
