Synchronizing Multiple Widgets

You can synchronize multiple Physics Simulation Review widgets.

You can synchronize widgets to compare the same content (results, plots) in different versions of a simulation, or you can synchronize different plots from the same simulation. You can also synchronize the legends of multiple widgets to compare different simulations using the same range of data.

When you animate synchronized widgets with steps containing different numbers of frames, only the shared frame ranges are synchronized, regardless of the number of steps in each simulation. For example:

  • If the main widget has fewer frames than the secondary widget, the last frames are never reached during the animation synchronization.
  • If the main widget has more frames than the secondary widget, the secondary widget waits for the main widget to complete its frames.

Before you begin: You must have more than one widget open.
  1. From the widget commands menu, select Preferences.
  2. From Edit Preferences, activate your required options:

    Synchronize viewpoint & probing Synchronizes changes in the viewpoint and the probing position between all selected Physics Simulation Review widgets in the tab.
    Synchronize frame selection Synchronizes changes to the active frame between all selected Physics Simulation Review widgets in the tab.
    Synchronize animation Synchronizes frame changes during animation between all selected Physics Simulation Review widgets in the tab.
    Synchronize legend Synchronizes the legend between selected widgets to use a common range of values. For example, if you edit the value fields in one widget, these changes propagate to all other synchronized widgets.
    Synchronize [other widget title] Enables synchronization for the selected widget.
    Synchronize [this widget title] Enables synchronization for the active widget.

    Note: When animation is synchronized, the Play command and player controls are disabled in the target widget while the animation is in process.

  3. Click Save to commit your selections.
