Adding 3D Components to a Catalog

You can add generic and resolved parts to a catalog.

This task shows you how to:

Add a Generic Part

You can add generic parts to a catalog.

Before you begin:
  • Create a generic model.
  • Create a catalog.
  1. From the Compass, click Component Family Definition.
    The Components Family dialog box appears.
  2. In the Components Family dialog box, enter a Title.
  3. In the Component Family Model tab, search for and select your Generic Model and click OK.
    The component family opens.
  4. Click Manage component family catalogs .
    The Catalog management dialog box appears.
  5. In the Items selection area, choose the items to catalog.
  6. In the Catalog options area, choose the catalog and chapter that you want to fill and set the other options as required.
  7. Click Fill chapter.
    A message indicates when the fill operation has been completed.
  8. When the catalog chapter has been filled and saved, click Close.

The catalog chapter is filled with the component family items and keywords corresponding to the component family attributes are created automatically.

Add a Resolved Part

You can add resolved parts to a catalog.

Before you begin:
  • Create a catalog.
  • Create a part.
  1. Open your catalog.
  2. Right-click the catalog at the position where you want to add the part and select Insert > Item: Reference.
    The Object Selection dialog box appears.
  3. Search for and then select the part and click OK.
    The part is added to the catalog at the selected position.
    Tip: You can also select a part from your current session.
  4. Optional: To change the version of the part:
    1. Right-click the part and select Item > Replace by/Insert latest Version.
      The Reference Version dialog box appears.
    2. In the Reference Version dialog box, choose the option you require and click OK.
    The version is updated if possible.

After you have added parts to a catalog, to be able to use the catalog during part placement you must:

  1. Assign the catalog to a Piping/Tubing Discipline resource table.
  2. Bind the resource table to your collaborative space.

Add an Engineering Template

You can turn parts and equipment you place in your Piping & Tubing design into engineering templates. You can use an engineering template to create a part with parameters.

  1. Create an engineering template.
    For more information about the creation of an engineering template, see Engineering Templates User's Guide: Creating an Engineering Template.
  2. Store the template in the right chapter of your catalog.
    The catalog can contain both 3DPart and engineering template elements.
    Note: You can only modify geometry modified, as the engineering templantes do not manage ports.
