Creating a Component Group

You can create a small network called component group. This component group can be treated as a single entity that can be placed several times in the global design. Depending on the instantiation rule, the behavior of the component group placement can change. Having a such reusable component avoids the repetition of the same tasks.

Before you begin: The Data Setup must contain the tables that provide the list of values available for each attribute.

About Component Groups
  1. Create a miscellaneous part:
    1. Click Add > Content
    2. Expand Piping and Tubing Physical.
    3. Click Piping Miscellaneous
The Piping Miscellaneous dialog box appears.
Note: To display the part dialog box, the Set attribute at creation option must be selected. For more information, see in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
  2. In the 3D Part tab, clear the Create 3D Part option.

If you clear Create 3D Part, a 3D shape is added by default to the object and you will be able to add one or more 3D shapes later by selecting Insert > 3D shape from the context menu.

Note: If you have created a part with the Create 3D Part option or imported a part with a unique 3D shape, you can switch the 3D part to a product. For more information, see Product Structure Design user's guide: Working with 3D Parts: Switching a 3D Part to a Product.

  3. In the Data Information panel, valuate the attributes.
  4. Create the component group design using the available commands such as Place Part or Create Route.
  5. Recreate the ports at the component group level from the existing ports:
    1. Activate the part representation.
    2. From the Fluid Design section of the action bar, click Manage Ports .
    3. Click Add to create the new ports. For more information, see Adding, Deleting and Modifying Ports.
  6. In the Data Information panel, select the Instantiation Rule of your choice:
    • Reuse Reference: the component group is instantiated like a standard reference.
    • New Reference: the component group is managed like a pattern and all the instances of the part are recreated. Each reference of these instances are managed following their Reference Mode.
    • Reuse or New Reference: the component group is instantiated like a standard reference and the instances of the part are either instantiated or duplicated, depending on their reference mode. This instantiation rule is specifically used for component groups containing a flexible route.
Note: Component groups with a Reuse or New Reference instantiation mode can only be used in the Piping & Tubing Design and HVAC Design apps. This behavior is not applicable for Electrical Raceway Design apps as there are no flexible routes.
