About Specifications

A specification provides the rules and piping/tubing parts to design a fluidic system in a specific context.

Specifications are typically linked to the characteristics of the fluid or gas being transported in the pipe/tube (pressure, temperature, corrosion, etc.) and the external conditions (temperature, corrosion, etc.). These factors will determine the use of specific materials, end style, nominal size range, etc.

The part catalog or the database contains all the parts available to you for your designs. However, in many circumstances you will only want to use parts that have certain properties.

For example, if you are building a system for conveying hot gases under pressure, you will only want to use routes and parts that have a certain heat tolerance, are made of certain materials and have a certain pressure tolerance.

You achieve this by detailing in the specifications what the properties should be for the parts you want to use. The specifications do not contain copies of the parts, but when you place parts using a specification, you will only be able to use parts from the part catalog or database that meet the criteria you have detailed in that specification.
