Creating Piping/Tubing Symmetry

You can create the symmetry of a piping/tubing geometry assembly using the Assembly Symmetry command in the Assembly Design app.

Before you begin: Open an existing piping/tubing geometry assembly.

About Piping/Tubing Symmetry
  1. From the Compass, click 3D Modeling Apps and select Mechanical > Assembly Design to enter the Assembly Design app.
The Assembly Design app is displayed and ready to use.
  2. From the Assembly section of the action bar, click Assembly Symmetry .
The Symmetric Reference Creation dialog box appears.
  3. Select the product to make symmetric.

You can also select the desired product by clicking Browse existing product.

  4. In the Specifications area, click Customize Symmetry Specifications .
You are now in the Assembly Symmetry app.
Important: In the Assembly Symmetry app:
    • The product viewer containing the assembly is minimized.
    • The Original viewer containing the selected product and Symmetric viewer appears tiled vertically.
    • Specific toolbars appear too. For more information, see Assembly Design User's Guide: Assembly Design Basics: User Interface.
  5. Click Symmetry Properties to choose the expected behavior for the symmetrical assembly and click OK.
  6. Select the symmetry specification option of your choice in the Symmetry specifications toolbar.
Note: The New symmetric reference option is used to create the symmetry of a piping/tubing assembly product. The Same reference or Existing reference options are used to create the symmetry of one or several instances of piping/tubing or HVAC parts, equipment and supports. If you use these two last options, you have to specify the relation between the two references by defining a symmetry plane.
  7. Click Exit .
You exit the Assembly Symmetry app and the original product window is restored.
  8. Optional: Select the Symmetry Constraint Definition check box to create symmetry constraint.

You can select a symmetry plane as a symmetry constraints.

  9. Click OK in the Symmetric Reference Creation dialog box.
The new symmetric product is created.
  10. From the standard area of the action bar, click Update .
