Duplicating Instances

You can duplicate a multiselection of an instance from different products. You can choose the target product of the new instances for each parent product of the selected instances. The Reference Mode on the selected instance drives the duplication process: if the Reference Mode value is NewFrom, the reference of the selected instance is duplicated before the creation of the new instance. If the Reference Mode value is Reuse, the reference of the selected instance is not duplicated. If the instance has no Reference Mode attribute, only a new instance is created.

For more information about reference mode and instantiation rule, see Creation Mode of Piping Object.

  1. In the tree, select the leaf instances you want to duplicate.
  2. From the Fluid Design section of the action bar, click Duplicate or Mirror Instances .
The Duplicate Instances dialog box appears and lists one or several groups of objects, depending if you have selected objects from different products.
  3. To modify the target product of the duplicated instances, click Edit... and select the target product of your choice in the tree.
The name of the target product is updated in the dialog box according to your selection.
  4. Do one of the following duplications:
    • Symmetry: Select Mirror selected network and select a plane to duplicate the selected objects at a symmetric location along the plane.
    • Translation by defining the direction and the distance:
      1. Right-click the Robot.
      2. Click Edit... in the context menu. The Parameters for Robot Manipulation dialog box appears.
      3. Under Translation increment, enter a distance along the direction of your choice.
      4. Specify the number of patterns you want to create.
  5. Click OK.
The selected instances are duplicated in their new target products.

Notes:
  • If the selected instances have implement links, they are not recreated.
  • External references are deleted if they are linked to an object outside the selected occurrence.
  • Engineering connections that connect two objects in the selection are duplicated.
  • Spools are not leaf instances. You need to create a spool and duplicate each object of the existing spool into this new spool.
