Select a Reference by Defining a Subtype
You can select a reference by defining its subtype.
- From the Fluidic Design section of the action bar, click Place Part .

On the context toolbar, click Piping > Part selection > Define part sub type or select a new part .
The Part Subtypes dialog box appears listing subtypes with their respective icons. These subtypes come from:
- The Specification table if you use file-based resources.
- The Part Subtypes returned by the Parts Filters inside the current specification if you use Engineering Specification resources.
The icon is retrieved from the Part Subtype table. For more information, see Part Subtype
- Select a subtype in the list or an already placed part.
If you use:
- A file-based resource for the current collaborative space, the parts are taken
from the catalog in the resource.Note: If you choose a part subtype that exists in more than one catalog, the Catalog Browser dialog box appears to let you choose the appropriate catalog.
- An engineering specification resource, the parts are taken from the Parts
Filters in the current specification.Note: If there is no line ID, the default specification is used.
- A file-based resource for the current collaborative space, the parts are taken
from the catalog in the resource.
- Select a placement method.For more information about placement methods, see Placing a Part or a Route in Space.

Click the location where you want to place your part.
If you use:
- A file-based resource for the current collaborative space, the catalog appears.
- An engineering specification resource, the Filtered Parts Browser appears.
Note: In Filtered Parts Browser, you can order, hide and show, and resize the columns. Your changes are kept in the
CATPipingPartsFilterViewOptions.CATSettings
file.

Select a part in the catalog.
The part is placed at the location you have chosen.Note: If the selected reference is an engineering template, then the system detects it and the Insert Object dialog box appears.
- Click Parameters.
The Parameters dialog box appears.
- Enter the parameters of your choice.
- Click OK.
The new reference is created from the Engineering Template.
