Connecting and Disconnecting Parts

You can connect and disconnect two parts or routes.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Open the product assembly containing the parts or routes you want to connect or disconnect.

Connect Parts

You can connect two parts using the Connect command.

  1. From the Fluid Design section of the action bar, select Part Mode as process mode.
  2. From the Selection Options dialog box, select Part Selection .
    For more information about the different selection options, see Selection Options and Process Modes.
  3. Select the part or route you want to connect.

    The ports appear on the selected part or route. A symbol is added to the yellow point to indicate that the port is already connected.

  4. Click the unconnected port.
  5. On the context toolbar, click Connect .
  6. From the Connect panel, select one of the following Orientation Mode:
    • Keep Orientation : The selected part keeps its orientation.
    • Do not Keep Orientation : The selected part is oriented in the same direction than the other part.
    Note: The parts can be oriented in the same direction only if the selected ports are parallel.
  7. From the Connect panel, select an Orientation Mode.
  8. Select the part you want to connect to.
    The ports are displayed in yellow on the part.
  9. Select the port you want to connect to.

    The first part moves to connect to the second part, so that the ports are aligned and locked. An engineering connection is created between the two parts. For more information, see to Assembly Design User's Guide : Engineering Connections.

    If the part is connected to a pipe/tube, you need to update to make the pipe/tube move as well.

    However, a part already connected to another part cannot be selected as the first part. Therefore, to connect to such a part, the other part needs to be selected first.

Disconnect Parts

You can disconnect two parts using the Disconnect command.

  1. From the Fluid Design section of the action bar, select Part Mode as process mode.
  2. From the Selection Options dialog box, select Part Selection .

  3. Select the part you want to disconnect.
  4. On the context toolbar, click Disconnect .
    The ports are displayed in yellow on the part.
  5. Click the port you want to disconnect.

    The parts are disconnected. The selected port appears with the unconnected symbol.
