Creating a Data Setup User Command

You can create customized user commands. In this example, you are going to create a command to instantiate a user feature. The Add Command to this item command lets you customize your environment, accessing data you use very often (templates, and rule bases) from a section. This command is available from the Data Setup editor from the Resource Type and the Resource cells for the following actions:

  • Power copies
  • User features
  • Multi-discipline templates instantiation
  • Rule bases solving.

Before you begin: You must have created a user feature and saved it.

Create a Resource Table

Prior to creating a user command, you must first create a resource table.

  1. In the Resource Tables tab, right-click Knowledge Resources and select Create Resource Table or click .
    The Resource Set dialog box appears.
  2. Click OK.
    The Resource Set window opens.
  3. Click Add a new resource item.
    A row is added to the table.
  4. Double-click the Resource Type cell to display the scrolling list and select User-Defined Feature.
    The Select a xxx dialog box appears.
  5. Double-click the Unset cell.
    The Select a User Defined Feature for item "Resource1" window opens.
  6. Enter the name of the resource and click Search.
  7. Select the resource from the list and click OK.
    The Select a resource in component xxx appears.
  8. Select the user feature and click OK twice.
    The resource is assigned.
  9. Drag and drop your resource to a collaborative space in the Project bindings tree.

    Do not close this window before creating the user command.

Create the User Command

After creating the resource table and assigning it to a collaborative space, you can create the user command.

  1. In the ResourceSetxxx (Knowledge Resources) window, right-click the Resource and select Add Project Resource command on this item .
    The Create user command dialog box opens.
  2. Enter the name of the command, UserFeature in this scenario, and click OK. Close the ResourceSet xxx window.
  3. Save your work.

The new resource table is created as well as the user command.

Move the User Command to a Section

After creating your user command, you must move it to a section so that you can use it any time you want.

  1. Select Me > Preferences > Customize.
    The Customize window opens.
  2. Click the Sections tab, select the Engineering Rules Capture section and click Add commands.
    The Commands List dialog box opens.
  3. Click the UserFeature command and drag and drop it to the Engineering Rules Capture section.
    The command is now available in your section. Click OK.
