Pack Simulation Options

During the first stage of the pack simulation, pressure is applied to the injection locations. In the second stage of the pack simulation, this pressure is removed and the polymer material cools further. These stages are referred to as Pack and Cool in the Cycle Times diagram.

You can control the following aspects of the pack simulation:

  • The pack switch point defines the percentage of filled cavity volume at which the packing simulation begins. To avoid abrupt pressure increases, it is common to begin packing just before the cavity becomes 100% full.
  • The pack pressure profile defines the duration of the first stage of the packing simulation and how the pressure varies during this time.
  • The pack time is the duration of the first stage of packing, where pressure is applied to the injection locations. It is computed automatically from the pack pressure profile.
  • The cool time is the duration of the second stage of the packing simulation, where pressure is removed and the material cools further.
  • For thermoset materials, you can set the method by which the simulation will end the Pack simulation. You can specify that the Pack simulation ends when the material reaches a specified cure percentage or specify an actual duration for this phase. If you specify a duration, you can review the curing conversion percentage after the simulation ends to determine whether the selected time is adequate.
