Non-Conformal Mesh

Plastic Injection issues an error message when there is a non-conformal mesh between the runner and the plastic part.

The error message reads:

Parts with non-conformal meshes

You can troubleshoot the meshing process to have the meshes conform to each other.

Cause

The meshes at the interface between two or more parts are non-conformal; that is, their node locations do not match.

Solution

You can determine whether a non-conformal mesh exists in your model and take steps to repair it by performing the following steps:
  • Run the Show Non-Conformal Meshes command to identify the locations of non-conformal meshes in your model, if any. For more information, see Showing Non-Conformal Meshes.
  • Use the Mesh Part Manager to manually specify the mesh sizes to make them consistent, or nearly so, for the bodies that contact each other.
  • Use the Mesh Part Manager to edit the setup feature for each part involved in the non-conformal mesh and to reduce their mesh sizes.
  • Use the Show Intersecting Parts command to check for areas of intersection between your parts. If any exist, edit the model to eliminate these intersections. For more information, see Locating Intersecting Bodies.
  • Use the Local Mesh Size command to refine the mesh in specific areas; for example, the area between the cavity and the runner. For more information, see Defining a Local Mesh.
