Customizing the Injection Time, Temperatures, and Pressure

You can customize simulation behavior by adjusting the filling time, melt and mold temperature settings, and maximum injection pressure. This task is optional; the default values for these settings are suitable for most simulations.

  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Process Settings .
  2. Optional: Enter a value for the Melt temperature, which is the temperature of the polymer entering the model at the injection locations.
  3. Optional: Enter a value for the Mold temperature, which is the uniform temperature of the cavity walls.
  4. Optional: Enter a value for the Fill time, which is the time required to inject all of the plastic material into the mold.

The deafult filling time is 1/10 of the automatic cooling time t K , as determined by the following equation:

    t K s 2 π 2 a e f f ln ( 8 π 2 θ M θ W θ E θ W ) ,

where s is the average thickness; π 2 a e f f is the heat conductivity (expressed as density times specific heat); and θ M , θ W , and θ E are the melt temperature, mold temperature, and ejection temperature, respectively.

  5. Optional: Enter a value for the Injection pressure limit, which is the maximum pressure that the injection machine can produce.

The default setting, 100 MPa, is the same for all simulations.

  6. Click OK.
