Editing Materials

You can modify materials in an experience.

This task shows you how to:

Expose Materials

When you insert a physical product in the experience, PLM materials may already be applied. To manipulate materials, you need to expose them in the experience.

You can only expose materials applied to products or 3D parts.

In the tree or the 3D area, right-click an actor or a product (exposed or not) and select Expose > Expose materials.

Only materials of the selected level are exposed. Children levels are also included.

Apply Materials

You can apply materials to 3D actors or occurrences of a product actor.

  1. In the tree, select a material and click Apply.
  2. In the 3D area, click an actor to apply the material.
  3. Optional: To view the list of applied materials, click Applied Materials .

Pick Materials

You can pick a material assigned to an object and apply it to other objects in the experience.

  1. From the Perception Experience section of the action bar, click Pick and Apply Materials .
  2. In the 3D area, pick the object to which the material is applied.
  3. Select the object to which you want to apply the material.

Pick and Apply a Material to the Selection

You can apply a given material to the selected actors.

  1. Select the object to which you want to apply the material.
  2. From the Perception Experience section of the action bar, click Pick and Apply to Selection .
  3. To select the material, use either of the following methods:
    • In the material palette, click the material.
    • In the Project panel or in the 3D area, click the object to which the material is applied.

    The material is immediately applied to the selected actors.

Remove Material

You can remove a material from an experience.

To remove a material resource, right-click a material in the tree and select Delete.

The material is removed from the experience.

Remove Material Application

You can remove the material applied to an object.

To remove the material applied to an object, proceed as follows:
  1. In the tree, expand the object node, and then the Applied Materials node.
  2. Right-click the applied material.
  3. Select Delete.
The material is no longer applied to the object. However, the material is still available in the experience.

Edit Materials Properties

You can edit existing materials properties from the Properties panel.

  1. To display the properties of a material, right-click the material in the tree, and select Properties.
  2. In the Properties panel, modify the properties of the material as required.
