Setting Triggers to Activate Variants in Presentation Mode

You can activate variants (or variant lines) at Play without using variant thumbnails. To do so, you can define objects and hotkeys that act as triggers to activate variants at Play time.

Note: In Virtual Reality (VR) mode, trigger objects are the main way to activate variants. You must define them before playing the experience in this mode. However, if your context requires it, you can also use trigger objects to activate variants in desktop mode.

  1. In the Variant panel, click the menu available on the variant line or variant thumbnail for which you want to define a trigger.

  2. Click Set Trigger.
  3. In the Set Trigger panel, select one or both of the following options:
    OptionDescription
Objects Activates the use of trigger objects.

Select this option. Click Add Triggers. In the 3D area or in the tree available in the Project panel, right-click the 3D actor (part, product, or primitive) that you want to define as the trigger.

    Notes:
    • You can select several objects. In this case, they all activate the same variant or variant line.
    • When one or more of the objects in the list is already defined as a trigger of another variant or variant line, a warning message appears in the dialog box. The existing association will be replaced upon validation.
    Tips:
    • If you selected the wrong object, hover over it again: a target icon with a red cross will appear. Select the object again to remove it from the list.
    • Click Clear Triggers to remove the whole selection of trigger objects.
Hotkey Activates the use of trigger hotkeys.

Select this option. From the list, select a key.

Note: You can define a given key as a trigger for only one variant or variant line. If you select a key that is already defined as a trigger for another variant or variant line, a warning message appears in the dialog box. At this stage, you can either proceed with the next step (this overwrites the existing "trigger-hotkey" association), or clear the Hotkey check box, click OK, and repeat the whole step 3.

The selected objects or hotkeys are now triggers for the variant or variant line in the Presentation mode.
Tip: You can click Highlight Triggers in the Perception Experience or in the Presentation section of the action bar to toggle the highlighting in the scene of all trigger objects.

You can now play the experience in desktop mode, or in VR mode using an HMD (Head-Mounted Display) device. For more information, see Using the Presentation Mode.
