General Description
A Manufacturing Installation usually has one input item and one or more output items. It can also contain one or more items. The Manufacturing Installation is usually created between the input item and the output item, and can also be created without any input item. A Manufacturing Installation can also have multiple input items of the Manufacturing Installation type.
The table below shows that item types can be used as input, output, and contained items of a Manufacturing Installation.

The input and Manufacturing Installation must be siblings.
The data requirement between input and Manufacturing Installation is explicit.
The Manufacturing Installation can be included in a Group, but a Group cannot be the input or output of a Manufacturing Installation. Stacked items cannot be used as input or output of a Manufacturing Installation.
The 3D representation above a Manufacturing Installation tile is the 3D output of the input item plus the 3D of assigned items on the Manufacturing Installation.
If there is at least one item assigned on the Manufacturing Installation, it can be expanded to display the contained items.
You can create several Manufacturing Installations in series or in parallel.
There can be a hierarchy of Manufacturing Installations: you can create one or more Manufacturing Installations under a Manufacturing Installation. The 3D representation above a hierarchical Manufacturing Installation tile is the 3D output of the input item of the successor installation plus the 3D of assigned items on the Manufacturing Installation.
You can create a Manufacturing Installation directly under a PPR Context. Then, an MBOM structure can be related to this Manufacturing Installation, and this Manufacturing Installation can be inserted under a Manufacturing Assembly.
