Model Editor

The Model Editor options let you choose whether to generate a file representing an External Simulation Representation. In addition, the options allow you to customize the name of the file that is created.

External Simulation File

Generate File Name

Selects the version of Python for all Python scripting activities in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

By default, this option is selected.

To request that the Model Editor generates an external simulation file, select Generate File Name. If you choose not to generate the name of the file, you can enter the name in the table editor or in the manifest XML file.

If you choose to generate an external simulation file, the remaining options allow you to name the file that is created when the Model Editor exports an External Simulation Representation from the current product structure.

File Name Pattern

With representation name modifies the file name with prepended or appended strings.

By default, this option is selected.

Enter strings that will be prepended and appended to the name of the file that is generated from the External Simulation Representation. The string can be either of the following:

  • a literal character string, such as Side Impact Test, or:
  • a variable representing an attribute of the External Simulation Representation, such as #v_discipline# (the leading and trailing # characters are required)

Without representation name replaces the representation name with a user-defined string as the new file name.

File Name Extension

Enter a string that will be used as the file name extension; for example, dat or inp. Do not include a period with the string, and you cannot change the file name extension after it has been associated with an External Simulation Representation.

By default, the .inp file name extension is selected.
