Plots and Legend

The Plots and Legend options let you specify global settings for newly created plots. You can override these options by editing the plot or legend directly. Settings are preserved across simulations and sessions.

This page discusses:

Plot

Show deformation
Displays the deformed shape of the model.

Edges

Visible edges
Specifies model edges to be displayed in the model (Outline, Mesh, or None).
Edge angle
Specifies the minimal angle between adjoining element faces for an edge to be displayed. Edge angle is specified only for the Outline type of visible edges.

Template folder

Directory
Selects the output directory to save the template file.
File name
Specifies the file name for the template.
Manage templates
Displays the available templates for editing or deleting.

Legend

Position
Specifies the position of the legend within the work area.
Values
Format specifies the numerical format for the legend (available choices are Automatic, Scientific, Decimal, and Default):
  • If the format is Automatic, you can then specify the Number of digits in the display. Values from 1 to 7 are permitted.
  • If the format is Scientific or Decimal, you can then specify the Decimal value; that is, the number of significant digits to display for scientific or decimal-based notation.
  • If the format is Default, plots and legends display units with exponential notation or trailing zeros as specified in General dimensions display.
Note: The General dimensions display options are on the Modeling Preferences page. From the top bar, select Me > Preferences, and then click the Main Preferences tab. In the right-hand pane, expand Units.
Intervals
Determines the number of gradations and distribution of color in the legend, and specifies the orientation of the legend.
  • Number of intervals: Specifies the number of colors used in the legend. Values from 2 to 512 are permitted.
  • Smooth colors: Modifies the distribution of values across the color range.
  • Reverse colors: Reverses the color order in the legend.
  • Orientation: Specifies the orientation of the legend (Horizontal or Vertical).
