External Native 3D Formats

The External Native 3D Formats options let you customize general and import options for converters for external formats.

This page discusses:

General

Data Format
Select the desired option:
  • Tessellated: Generated tessellated data are imported under a root product that contains a 3D Shape representation.
  • Exact

By default, Exact is selected.

Convert Coordinates System
When selected, activates the conversion of coordinates systems.

By default, Convert coordinates system is not selected.

3D Annotation
Enables the import of 3D annotations in graphic mode for Converter for Creo® Parametric™ and Converter for NX.
Note: Following limitations apply:
  • Converter for Creo® Parametric™ and Converter for NX do not support:
    • View
    • Captures as Annotation groups with section planes
    • Camera (Origin, Direction, Orientation, Zenith)
    • Line Style, Thickness
    • Annotation Show / NoShow Attribute
    • Parallel to screen Annotation Attribute
    • Annotation texts as Strings + font type
    • Annotation Validation Properties (string)
    • Annotation Construction Geometry (Geometric Entities: Planes, Cylinders, Circles)
    • Annotation User Defined Attributes
    • Annotation ID
    • Annotation relation with other annotations
    • Annotation relation with geometry (part level)
    • Annotation defined at product level
    • Annotation relation with geometry (product level)
    • Annotation tolerance value
    • Graphic representation as circle arcs
    • Graphic representation as faces (of filled areas)
    • Annotation set chordal arc value
  • Converter for Creo® Parametric™
    • Supports only the semantic type of Dimensioning and Tolerancing elements.
    • Does not support annotations in an assembly file, nor annotations seen as custom drawing symbols.
    • Annotations under Remove from State are not imported unless the file is modified to Show Annotations.
    • Converts all angular values of Dimensioning and Tolerancing elements into radians, and other values of Dimensioning and Tolerancing elements into the target document units.
    • Does not support text properties (underline, color, font size, font name) of text annotations.
  • Converter for NX
    • Supports Product Manufacturing Information since NX 7.5
    • Does not support text properties (underline, color, font size, font name) of text annotations.
    • Does not support Product Manufacturing Information associated to datum axis.
    • Does not Product Manufacturing Information not associated to geometry.

By default, 3D Annotation is not selected.

Import

Select the desired option:

Convert construction surfaces and free curves/points
When selected, activates the conversion of
  • Quilt surfaces (Creo® Parametric™ or PRO/ENGINEER®) or Construction surfaces,
  • Free curves and wire bodies for
    • Converter for ACIS (Import and export)
    • Converter for AutoCAD (DXF/DWG import)
    • Converter for JT
    • Converter for Parasolid
    • Converter for Creo® Parametric™
    • Converter for Solid Edge
    • Converter for NX
  • Free points data for
    • Converter for ACIS (Import and export)
    • Converter for AutoCAD (DXF/DWG import)
    • Converter for Parasolid
    • Converter for Solid Edge
    • Converter for NX
provided such elements exist in the input files.

By default, Convert construction surfaces and free curves/points is not selected.

Geometry Quality Enhancement
Checks and improves the quality of imported geometry.

By default, Allow deformation is not selected, and Maximum shape deformation is not active.

Export

Quality enhancement
Enable data quality enhancement at export
  • Controls and repairs body solids or surfaces of a model during the export to STEP.
  • Applies to the following elements, based on the given values, or their presence.
    • Small faces
    • Gaps
    • Small edges
    • Self-intersections
    • Duplicate faces
    • Embedded faces
  • Is not available for batch mode (DataExchangePLMBatch).

A message in the report file explains which enhancements have been done. If quality enhancement fails, the original model is exported.

Select the check box, then click Parameters to specify their values. The unit of the values depends on the unit specified in Common Preferences > Parameters, Measures and Units > Units > Units for Length..

By default,

  • Target value to repair gaps is set to 0.01mm.
  • Small faces max size is set to 0.01mm.
  • Small edges max length is set to 0.01mm.
  • Maximum deviation is set to 0.01mm

Import Creo®/ProE®

Select the desired option:

Simplified Representation
Limits the conversion of an assembly to a given simplified representation of this assembly. This requires that you enter the name of the simplified representation to use.
Important:
  • If the name of the simplified representation is left empty, or is erroneous, the complete assembly is converted.
  • Currently only assembly/sub-assembly level simplified representations are addressed. Part level simplified assemblies, when present, are not taken into account and the master representation will be converted in such cases.
  • The output product structure will be different from the original one.
  • Simplified representations other than Include or Exclude are not supported.
  • The name of the simplified representation must be entered in upper case (SIMPREP1, not simprep1).
Instance Name
Converts the geometry of one specific instance among those located in the part. This requires that you enter the name of this instance.

When this check box is cleared, the default geometry is converted.

Revit

Import as one CGR
Enables you to import a Revit® file as a root object and a CGR representing the content of the file, thus reducing the time required to import large files.
