Dimension

You can customize dimension options for Drafting using this section. You can customize options for positioning a dimension, line-up a dimension during its creation. You can also define the way a dimension is moved, the default parameters to line-up a dimension, and so on.

This page discusses:

Dimension Creation

Dimension following the cursor (CTRL toggles)

Select this check box to position the dimension line according to the cursor, following it dynamically during the creation process. Pressing the Ctrl key while creating dimensions enables you to temporarily deactivate this function.

If you clear this check box, dimension lines are not positioned following the cursor. In this case, pressing the Ctrl key enables you to temporarily activate it.

By default, this check box is selected.

Default dimension line/geometry distance

Specify a value to determine the distance between a dimension line and geometry at creation.

By default, this option is specified to 5 mm.

Dimension line following the geometry

Select this check box to maintain the positions of the dimensions with respect to the geometry.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Keep angle range
Select this check box to specify whether the angle dimensions must maintain their respective angle type (acute, obtuse, or reflex).

By default, this check box is cleared.

Associativity on 3D...

Click to define how to handle the associativity between dimensions and the 3D representation in a Drafting context.

For more information, see Dimensions Associativity On 3D.

Create driving dimensions

Select this check box if you want the newly created dimensions to drive the geometry.

A new field appears in the Tools Palette during the creation process, that lets you enter the driving dimension value.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Detect chamfer

Select this check box to activate the chamfer detection. This lets you create chamfer dimensions in a single click.

As chamfer detection may slow down the performance, you may want to deactivate this option for large products or assemblies.

By default, this check box is selected.

By default, create dimensions on circle's: Center

Select this check box if you want the dimensions created between a circle and another element to be on the circle's center.

By default, this check box is selected.

By default, create dimensions on circle's: Edge

Select this check box if you want the dimensions created between a circle and another element to be on the circle's edge.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Move

Snap values between symbols (SHIFT toggles)

Select this check box to locate the dimension value at its default position between the symbols (it works only if the cursor is between the symbols).

If you clear this check box, snapping is deactivated. In this case, press the Shift key to activate this option temporarily.

By default, this check box is selected.

Move only selected sub-part

Select this check box if you want to move only a dimension subpart (text, line, and so on).

By default, this check box is cleared.

Line-Up

You can organize the dimensions into a system with a linear offset. The offset aligns the dimensions according to each other as well as the smallest dimension to the reference element.

Default offset to reference

Specify the offset between the smallest dimension and the reference element.

By default, the offset is specified to 0 mm and 0 deg.

Default offset between dimensions

Specify the offset between dimensions.

By default, the offset is specified to 10 mm and 15 deg.

Align stacked dimension values

Select this check box to align all the values of a group of stacked dimensions on the value of the smallest dimension of the group.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Align cumulated dimension values

Select this check box to align all the values of a group of cumulated dimensions on the value of the smallest dimension of the group.

By default, this check box is selected.
