Units

The unit options let you customize Units for Knowledge Products.

This page discusses:

Units Associated to Design Limits

The current unit along with its symbol is displayed for each magnitude parameter in a specific range:

Normal range
Lets you select a unit from the list for each magnitude type parameter in normal range mode.

By default, this check box is selected.

Small range
Lets you select a unit from the list for each magnitude type parameter in small range mode.
Large range
Lets you select a unit from the list for each magnitude type parameter in large range mode.
Extra Large range
Lets you select a unit from the list for each magnitude type parameter in extra large range mode.
Notes:
  • The symbol associated to the unit is updated accordingly. Any modification to the current unit and its symbol for a single magnitude parameter is automatically reflected in dialog boxes where it is used.
  • Changing units does not modify the design limits. For example, in normal range 10e-6 m < Length < 10e+3 m, regardless the unit set.

General Dimensions Display

This option is available only if the XML configuration setting is specified.

Warning: These settings will not be taken into account if the computed value is comprised between -0.5 and +0.5.
Display trailing zeros
If checked, enables you to display trailing zeros.
Exponential notation for values greater than 10e+
Enables you to define the upper limit for using an exponential notation.

By default, this option is set to 6.

Exponential notation for values lower than 10e-
Enables you to define the lower limit for using an exponential notation.

By default, this option is set to 6.

Specific Dimensions Display

Same display for read/write numbers and read-only numbers
If checked, both read-write and read-only numbers will have the same display.
Important: If you specify a number of decimal places greater than 8 the computed value will not be rounded-up.

By default, this check box is selected.

Decimal places for read-write numbers
Enables you to define the number of decimal places to display for read-write numbers.

By default, this option is set to 3.

Decimal places for read-only numbers
Enables you to define the number of decimal places to display for read-only numbers.

By default, this option is set to 3.

Filtering Units

You can quickly locate the magnitude table by filtering according to magnitude, unit, or symbol names.

Filter Properties
Filters by all or a portion of the unit display name.
Magnitudes
Click Magnitudes to filter your entry by magnitudes.
Units
Click Units to filter your entry by units.
Symbols
Click Symbols to filter your entry by symbols.
Note: A list of potential matches is automatically displayed for you to directly select the magnitudes, units, or symbols you want.
