View Creation

The view creation options let you customize a number of settings that are used while creating 2D Layout for 3D Design views.

This page discusses:

View Visualization

Hide in 3D

Select this check box for newly created views to be hidden from the 3D window.

Important: You can show or hide the view in the 3D window at any time. Right-click it in the 2D window and select Visualization > Show in 3D or Visualization > Hide in 3D respectively.

By default, this check box is cleared.

View Background

Display mode

From the list, select a display mode to specify how the 2D and 3D backgrounds must be visualized for newly created views. The options available are described in the table below.

Display modeDescription
StandardShows both the 2D and 3D backgrounds.
InvisibleHides both the 2D background (the 3D representation of 2D elements that do not belong to the current view, but to other views) and the 3D background (the representation of all 3D elements, including edges, faces and 3D wireframe).
UnpickablePrevents from selection of elements in both the 2D and 3D backgrounds, even though you can see them. You can handle the 2D elements that belong to the current view.
Low-intensifiedDims all elements in both the 2D and 3D backgrounds.
Unpickable low-intensifiedDims all elements in both the 2D and 3D backgrounds. In addition, although you can see these elements, you cannot select them. You can handle the 2D elements in the current view.

By default, the Standard display mode is selected.

Activate 2D visualization mode

Select this check box to display only the 2D planar elements that are in the same plane as this view in 3D for the newly created views.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Filter

Select different options to specify the filter preferences for various views.

Note: For information on filters, see Creating View Filters.

The following filters are available:

  • No Filter: No filter is applied to the view.
  • Default Filter: The default filter is applied to the view.
  • Display Filter: A new display filter is created and applied to the view. The filter has the same name as the view, if possible, taking naming uniqueness into account.
  • Mask Filter: A new mask filter is created and applied to the view. The filter has the same name as the view, if possible, taking naming uniqueness into account.
  • List Filter: A list of available filters is displayed. You can choose an existing filter or create a new one.
  • Active View Filter: The same filter as the active view is applied.
  • Reference View Filter

If a view is created with a 3D Tolerancing & Annotation capture as reference, a filter equivalent to the filter on the capture is applied. If a view is created with a 3D Tolerancing & Annotation section view or section cut (aligned or offset), as reference, a mask filter containing the annotation set and layout is applied.

The Display Edit Filter dialog box check box is available if Display Filter or Mask Filter is selected. If selected, this option enables the edition of the filter at the end of the view creation.

By default, this check box is selected.

Select the Populate filter based on selected reference check box for Section and Section Cut Views to add the set containing the selected reference to the created filter, if the reference is a geometric element in the current shape. It is only available when Display Filter is selected.

By default, this check box is selected.

From the list next to the Display check box, select the required Work On Support (WOS).

Notes:
  • The list displays only the name of WOS 2D that are parallel to the view plane.
  • If you select multiple parallel views at the same time, the WOS 2D parallel to them are displayed.
  • The list directly shows the WOS 3D.
  • If you select multiple views associated with different WOS 2D that are part of a single WOS 3D, then that WOS 3D is directly selected.
  • If you apply a WOS 3D to multiple views, the selected views are associated with the first compatible WOS 2D of the selected WOS 3D.
Label Position

There are four positions where you can display the labels of the grid:

View From Reference

Reference perpendicular to active view
Align according to active view (SHIFT toggles):

Select one or both of the following options to align the newly created view to the active view:

  • Along folding direction
  • Perpendicular to folding direction

By default, these check boxes are selected.

Notes:
  • The view can be moved either along the folding direction or perpendicularly to it. Both these directions are represented by two dashed lines.
  • The origin of the created view stays on the folding line containing its projection in the 3D background of the active view.
  • You can also modify the 3D definition of the view plane in the View Creation dialog box to update the position and orientation of the view and make it consistent with the active view.

The Shift key toggles the preference. That is, when this check box is selected, then pressing the Shift key clears the selection. The view is no more aligned to the active view.

Set orientation according to the active view (CTRL toggles)

Select this check box to orient the newly created view to the active view. You can choose to select or clear this check box when the Align according to active view (SHIFT toggles) check box is selected.

By default, this check box is selected.

Reference non-perpendicular to active view
Align according to active view (SHIFT toggles):

Select one or both of the following options to align the newly created view to the active view:

This enables you to create a callout when creating an auxiliary view, a section cut or a section view (including multi-plane section views) from a 3D plane, face or sketch, using the New View From command.

Notes:
  • If several section cut or section views are created at the same time, callouts are created for only those views whose support plane is normal to the support plane of the active view.
  • If the active view is not compatible for the callout creation, no callout is created. However, it is possible to add callouts in compatible views after the View From Reference command using the Create Callout in Reference View command. For more information, see 2D Layout for 3D Design User's Guide: Creating Callouts in Reference Views.
  • If you do not want the automatic callout creation, you can clear the Create callout in active view check box.
