Commands - Availability Management

The Commands Availability Management options let you customize the commands available for the apps you are using. This configuration capability is intended to be used by administrators to better address the needs of end users.

This page discusses:

App Selection

From the Category list, select the category of your choice: the App list is updated accordingly to display only the apps belonging to the selected category. Then, use the App list to select the app to which the customization is to be applied.

The first four categories correspond to the quadrants of the Compass.

Commands Availability

Commands are identified by:

  • Their name in the Tooltip column. You can sort command names in alphabetical order by clicking "Tooltip".
  • Their icon (if applicable) in the Icon column.
  • Their availability status in the Enable column. "Y" means that the command is available in the selected app, and "N" means that the command is not available.

To make a command unavailable, click "Y" in the Enable column. The status changes to "N" to indicate that the selected command is now unavailable. In addition, the icons of impacted apps are displayed at the bottom of the dialog box, and when you point your mouse over an app icon, the corresponding app name is displayed in a tooltip.

When a command is unavailable, you can no longer access it, even through the power input box.

Important:
  • When you deactivate a command, do not forget to deactivate it for all the apps in which it is used. Alphabetical sorting is useful in that case to help you identify commands with identical names.

For example, the Pad command is available in two different apps. If you deactivate the command in one app only, it is still available in the other app and users can still add the command to an existing section through Me > Preferences > Customize. This also applies to commands defined several times in the same app.

  • When a command has been deactivated, it is no longer displayed in the user interface. However, activating the command again through the Commands Availability Management tab does not make the command reappear right away in the user interface. To use the command again, restart the session.

By default, all the commands are available.
