Visualization

The Visualization options let you customize visualization-related settings for Product Finder Classic.

Display

Background Color

Select Background Color, then select a color from the color wheel to modify the background color. You can also click More Colors... to access additional colors or create your own custom colors.

By default, this option is deactivated.

Explore Strategy in the 3D Area

No geometry

Select the No geometry radio button to visualize no geometry in the 3D area when exploring the selected content. Only the root of the structure is displayed in the tree (fast).

By default, this option is deactivated.

Partial outer skin with quality

Select the Partial outer skin with quality radio button to visualize a partial indexed simplified geometry of the structure in the 3D area when exploring the selected content. Only the outer skin of the structure is displayed with a variable quality. Move the quality slider to modify the number of rays intersecting the geometry to visualize. The higher the number the less partial the geometry. Since the outer skin is computed by index that may not be up to date, the displayed geometry might not exactly represent the design structure but it is faster to load.

By default, this option is activated.

On servers without Indexation Server installed, this option is not available.

Indexed simplified geometry

Select the Indexed simplified geometry radio button to visualize an indexed simplified geometry of the complete structure in the 3D area when exploring the selected content. Since the indexed simplified geometry is computed by an index that may not be up to date, what is displayed might not exactly represent the design structure but it is faster to load.

By default, this option is deactivated.

On servers without Indexation Server installed, this option is not available.

Expand Strategy in the 3D Area

Nothing but simplified geometry on local leaves

Select the Nothing but simplified geometry on local leaves radio button to visualize the simplified geometry of the node in the 3D area when expanding it down to its Representation level.

By default, this option is deactivated.

Partial outer skin of each child with quality

Select the Partial outer skin of each child with quality radio button to visualize a partial indexed simplified geometry of the structure in the 3D area when expanding a node. Only the outer skin of each child is displayed with a variable quality. Move the quality slider to modify the number of rays intersecting the geometry to visualize. The higher the number, the less partial the geometry. Since the outer skin is computed by an index that may not be up to date, the displayed geometry might not exactly represent the design structure but it is faster to load.

By default, this option is activated.

On servers without Indexation Server installed, this option is not available.

Indexed simplified geometry of all children

Select the Indexed simplified geometry of all children radio button to visualize an indexed simplified geometry of the complete branch in the 3D area when expanding a node. Since the index may not be up to date, the displayed geometry might not represent the exact structure as it is saved in the database but it is faster to load.

By default, this option is deactivated.

On servers without Indexation Server installed, this option is not available.

Depending on the currently selected explore strategy, some expand strategies will not be logically accessible and they will be greyed out accordingly:

  • The default Explore strategy is "Partial outer skin" and the default Expand strategy is "Partial outer skin of each child".
  • As the default Explore strategy is "Partial outer skin", "Nothing but simplified geometry on local leaves" in the Expand strategy section will be greyed out by default. It will be enabled only when the Explore strategy is changed to "No Geometry".
  • If the Explore strategy is set to "Indexed simplified geometry", options for Expand strategies "Nothing but simplified geometry on local leaves" and "Partial outer skin of each child" will be disabled and "Indexed simplified geometry of all children" will be selected automatically.

Advanced Options

Use simplified geometry on local leaves

Select Use simplified geometry on local leaves to see CGRs for the Representations instead of 3DThumbnails, even if the 3DThumbnails have been generated. This enables you to see modifications to the Representations without having to re-index the product structure. If this option is not activated, then you will see 3DThumbails for the Representations.

By default, this option is activated.

Use static indexed geometry

Select Use static indexed geometry to replace the dynamic visualization of geometry by static indexed geometry already computed using the Thumbnail Builder. (Note: The Thumbnail Builder command is deprecated. This option is not recommended unless the static geometry has already been computed.)

By default, this option is deactivated.

Never display geometry

Select Never display geometry to never display any geometry in the 3D area, only the tree structure is displayed. Unselect this option to visualize the geometry in the 3D area again. After selecting the Never display geometry option, it is not required to click Display Tree View or F3 to expand/collapse the tree structure, as there is no geometry displayed in the 3D area.

By default, this option is deactivated.

3D Search

Important: On the cloud, this functionality is not supported.
Maximum number of results before warning

In the Maximum number of results before warning box, enter the maximum number of Search results before a warning is displayed (maximum: 10000).

If the number of results exceeds the defined maximum value, then a warning is displayed asking you if you want to continue and display the results.

By default, the value is set to 0 (no warning will be displayed).

Reduce visualization flickering

Select the Reduce visualization flickering checkbox if you want to reduce the visual flickering created by overlapping zones competing for visual representation. Note that for some exceptional cases, the flickering may not be entirely eliminated.

The flickering occurs because two or more polygons have similar values in the z-buffer, therefore one polygon "wins" the z test, then another polygon wins the test, and so on. The overall effect is a flickering of polygons "fighting" to color the screen pixels.

By default, this option is deactivated.

3D Navigation Turntables

Each time you navigate the structure of a model in the tree or in the 3D, two actions can be launched:

  • an animation can be launched that creates a transition from the current viewpoint to the new viewpoint
  • a reframe can be launched on the viewpoint so as to center objects that have been selected

Automatic reframe

Select the Automatic reframe checkbox to activate the automatic reframing of selected objects in the 3D.

By default, this option is deactivated.

Animation during navigation

Select the Animation during navigation checkbox to have an animation applied during the transition from one viewpoint to the next.

By default, this option is activated.

Selection in the 3D Area

Select Representations

Check the box to select representations in the 3D area.

Uncheck the box to select parent references instead of representations.

By default, this option is activated.
