Engineering Connection

Use the Engineering Connection options to configure the default properties of engineering connections for Assembly Design.

This page discusses:

General

Display in 3D area
Specifies whether engineering connections will be displayed in the 3D area when selected in the tree or in an instance involved in an engineering connection.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Display child nodes of engineering connections in the tree
Displays the child nodes of engineering connections (constraints, fasteners or simulations) in the tree.

By default, this check box is selected.

By default, automatically position components
Sets Automatically position components as default orientation for new engineering connections.

By default, this check box is selected.

Lock automatically the engineering connection type at validation
Allows you to automatically lock the engineering connection type at the end of the creation or edition.

By default, this check box is selected.

Launch Engineering Connection Definition at product insertion
Uses the Product Structure Design command behaviors when inserting an existing product or 3D part in the assembly.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Notify contextual engineering connection creation
Displays a message when you are creating a contextual engineering connection.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Engineering Connections are duplicated when copying and pasting a component they move
Duplicates the engineering connections in relation with a copied component during the paste. Only engineering connections that make repositionable the original component are accounted for.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Mechanism

Add new engineering connection to the mechanism
Adds automatically a new created engineering connection either the current mechanism or the first mechanism found (when there is no mechanism set as current) in the active product.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Notify engineering connection addition to mechanism
Displays a message to add or not a new created engineering connection either in the current mechanism or the first mechanism found (when there is no mechanism set as current) in the active product.

By default, this check box is selected.

Constraints Creation

Position components to satisfy constraints
Automatically positions components to comply with the constraint definition.

By default, this option is selected.

Animate constraint changes
Allows you to animate an assembly when creating or modifying engineering connection constraints.

By default, this check box is selected.

Use direct manipulation for constraint creation
Applies the direct manipulation behavior for constraint creation.

By default, this check box is selected.

Select the desired option:

  • Use any geometry: to select any geometrical element.
  • Use published geometry of child components only: to select any published element that belongs to child components. For more information about publication, see Assembly Design User's Guide: Managing a product Publication.
  • Use published geometry of any level: to select any published element.

By default, the Use any geometry option is selected.

Note: For more information about publication and engineering connections, see the dedicated article in the Knowledge Base.

Constraint Creation Order

The Snap function utilizes a list of constraints in the order of creation.

You can modify the order of the constraints in the list when applying the Snap command to the selected geometrical elements.

Select the constraint type to reorder, and click the arrows on the right of the selection.

By default, the list is ordered as follows:

  • Surface Contact
  • Fix together relatively
  • Fix together
  • Coincidence
  • Offset
  • Angle
  • Parallelism
  • Perpendicularity
  • Curvilinear distance
  • Roll
  • Slide
  • Tangency
Create verified constraints first

Determines whether verified constraints should be created using the Snap check box.

By default, this check box is cleared.

Interferences

Check interferences at validation

Allows you to check for interferences when engineering connections are edited or created.

By default, this check box is selected.

Important:

This option is available regardless of whether the Interference Management app is provided or not with the configuration set or with the apps installed.
