Structures

The execution options for structures simulations let you choose various configurations to optimize how and where the simulation runs.

This page discusses:

Structures

Abaqus/Explicit precision

Specifies the floating-point numeric precision for explicit dynamic step execution.

Single Both the explicit packager and the explicit analysis run in single precision.

By default, this preference is selected.

Double - analysis only The explicit packager runs in single precision, but the explicit analysis runs in double precision.
Double - constraints only Both the explicit packager and explicit analysis run in single precision, but the constraint packager and constraint solver run in double precision.
Double - analysis + packager Both the explicit packager and explicit analysis run in double precision.

Single precision uses 32-bit word lengths and generally results in a CPU savings of 20% to 30% compared to double precision. Results are typically accurate to seven significant digits. Double precision uses 64-bit word lengths; results are typically accurate to 16 significant digits.

Single precision provides accurate results in most cases. Exceptions in which single precision tends to be inadequate include the following:

  • Analyses that require greater than approximately 300,000 increments.
  • Analyses that have typical nodal displacement increments less than 10-6 times the corresponding nodal coordinate values.
  • Analyses that include hyperelastic materials or involve multiple revolutions of deformable parts.
Use the double-precision executable for these cases.

Generate Abaqus ODB results file during execution for later export

Enables export of results data in .odb format for simulations run on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. After this option is selected, every subsequent simulation that you run also writes results output in .odb format. You can export this .odb file by selecting Share > Export > Export Simulation and selecting *.odb in the Save As dialog box.

Use external Abaqus solver

Executes your 3DEXPERIENCE platform simulation scenarios on a separate local installation of the Abaqus solvers from the media SIMULIA_AbaqusServices. Enter the path to the base folder/directory of the Abaqus solvers installation on your computer. For example, the default location on Windows for R2022x is:

C:\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\SimulationServices\B424\

This option only applies when you choose Interactive or Detached execution mode in the Simulate dialog box. Using this option submits your simulation to the specified Abaqus solvers instead of the solvers embedded in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform native apps installation on your computer.

Simulation Stopping Criteria (Advanced)

Important: The simulation stopping criteria are valid for Linear Structural Validation and Structural Validation only.

Use plastic strain (PEEQ) limit

Uses plastic strain results as an indicator of when to stop the simulation.

By default, this preference is selected.

Allowable percent plastic strain (PEEQ)

Specifies the percentage of allowable plastic strain before the simulation ends.

By default, this preference has the value 1.
