ICEM External I/O

The ICEM External I/O options let you customize options for the import and Export of ICEM data bases (ICEM DB).

This page discusses:

Geometry to be imported

All selected ICEM DB element types are saved in the Part. The geometry is converted into the following Part element types:

Continuity Optimization of Edge Curves and Independent Curves

You can choose between different tolerance settings to optimize the continuity in case of C2 discontinuities on independent curves or 2D edges.

No Optimatization
Curves are split at non C2 continuity points. The geometry of the curve remains unchanged.
Automatic Optimatization
Curves are approximated at non C2 continuity points with the default tolerance.
Tolerance
Curves are approximated at non C2 continuity points with the specified tolerance.

Attributes to be imported

You can import the following attributes from an ICEM DB:

  • Colors
  • Layers
  • Lists

Lists are converted to Display Sets.

  • Selection Sets
  • Lights
  • Materials

Materials individually assigned to an element can be imported together with texture data. Click the Texture Paths button to open the Texture Paths dialog box where you can add and remove texture paths.

Note: The import of material and texture data is only supported with ICEM DB files version 4.12 and higher. You can select the ICEM DB version in the Additional Export Options area.
  • Texts

Texts are imported as text with leader (annotation).

  • Views

    Views are imported as cameras.

Note: The data exchange supports both parallel and central perspective views. View layouts (multiple views) and zoom factor are not imported.

Additional Options

The following additional options are available:

  • Skip Root node of the ICEM DB for import
  • Try to use 2D curves for import of C2 continuous trimmed surfaces
  • Import planar surface as plane if possible

Geometry to be exported

All selected Part element types are saved in the ICEM DB. The geometry is converted into the following ICEM DB element types:

Attributes to be exported

You can import the following attributes to an ICEM DB:

  • Colors
  • Layers
  • Selection Sets
  • Display Sets

Display Sets are converted to Lists.

  • Lights
  • Materials

Materials can be exported together with texture data. Click the Texture Path button to open the file browser for selecting a texture path where the texture images shall be exported. The path is displayed in the text field. If the text field is empty, no texture data are exported.

Note: The export of material and texture data is only supported with ICEM DB files version 4.12 and higher. You can select the ICEM DB version in the Additional Export Options area.
  • Text with Leader
  • Views

    Cameras are exported to views.

Note: The data exchange supports both parallel and central perspective views. Multiple views and zoom factor are not exported.

Additional Export Options

ICEM DB Version 4.12 | 4.11
You can select the ICEM DB version for the export.
Materials and textures can only be exported to ICEM DB version 4.12. If 4.11 is selected, the Materials check box and Texture Path button in the Attributes to be exported area are disabled and no material will be exported.
Export Hidden Elements
Also elements in Hidden mode are exported into the ICEM DB.
Crop underlying Surface
Underlying surfaces can be cropped at face boundaries.
Note: In the following cases the underlying surfaces will unconditionally be retracted to the face boundaries:
  • unlimited geometry
  • if the underlying surface is smaller than the face.
Write empty Nodes to Rms File
You can export an active and saved 3DEXPERIENCE product including product structure and underlying 3D Shape representation into an ICEM Surf Reference Manager session file (*.rms). The rms file consists of nodes and parent nodes which reflect the database structure. The 3D Shape representation of a product is mentioned in the rms file as reference structure consisting of the saved ICEM DB and the node belonging to it. For each 3D Shape representation, an ICEM DB is written into a directory with the same name as the rms file.
With this option, you can choose whether products or nodes without 3D Shape representation in the product or node and underlying product or node shall be mentioned in the rms file.
