Using Data Interaction Options

Options enable you to interact with data. For example, you can modify the active level reference in the structure, you can select objects that are part of the structure with respect to a chosen reference object and you can interactively select the level of data at which you want to work.

This task shows you how to:

Set the Active Level

Designates the active level of a structure. The designated object then becomes the root of all applied commands.

  1. In the tree, select an object.
  2. In the Navigation section of the action bar, select Set as Active Level .
The selected object becomes the active level and will now be the root object of all applied commands.

Select

Selection commands provide you with a number of different selection options, for example parent, children, or siblings.

From the Navigation section of the action bar, click the Select Children flyout and select one of the proposed commands:.
  • Select Children: select all children of a product.
  • Select Others: select nodes other than those currently selected
  • Select All: select all the nodes of a product structure
  • Select Inversion: select all the children of a root except occurrence along the path of the selected occurrence.
  • Select Parent: select the parent node of a product
  • Select Siblings: select all the siblings of a product or 3D part
  • Select Leaves: select all leaves of all branches
  • Select Under ...: see Select Under.

Select Under

Provides an efficient method for selecting multiple objects from a tree view.

  1. Search for a product and explore it in Product Finder.
  2. Right-click the desired node and click Select Under.

    The Select Under window appears.

  3. To define selections based on Object type, Attribute type and Attribute value:
    • Select an object type from the Object type list.

Note: Tree Node is a special attribute type that takes into account only the display name of the object in the tree. All exposed nodes associated with the name provided in the Attribute value field will be selected.

    • Select an attribute from the Attribute list.

    • Enter a value in the Value box.

  4. To append subsequent results to your previous results, select the Keep current selection option.
  5. Click Apply to run the command.
  6. Click OK to run the command and exit the dialog box.
  7. Click Close to exit the dialog box.
Any selections made are maintained when you exit.

Refresh and Collapse

The Refresh and Collapse command enables you to collapse a selected node of the tree and to refresh its content (attributes and lock status) from the database. When you re-expand the node, the content of displayed children will also be refreshed.

In the tree or in the 3D, right-click an object and select Refresh and Collapse or select an object and then, in the View section of the action bar, select Refresh and Collapse.
The selected object is collapsed and its content is refreshed from the database. When you re-expand the node, the content of displayed children will also be refreshed.

Keep Selected Branches

You can designate the branches and objects you want to keep in session. All others will be removed.

  1. In the tree or in the 3D, select the branches or objects you want to keep.
  2. In the View section of the action bar, select Keep or right-click the selected objects and select Keep .
The selected branches or objects are kept in the Navigation tab accordingly and all others are removed.
    Important:
    • Every node from the root to the selected node is kept.
    • If a node and one of its children nodes are both selected, only the child node is taken into account in the selection.
    • All children nodes of the selected node are kept (unless one of the children nodes is selected too, in which case the previous rule applies.

Remove Selected Branches

You can designate the branches and objects you want to remove from your session. All others will be kept and will then constitute your session content.

  1. In the tree or in the 3D, select the branches or objects you want to remove.
  2. In the View section of the action bar, select Remove or right-click the selected objects and select Remove.
The selected branches or objects are removed from the Navigation tab accordingly.
    Important:
    • Each selected node is removed, and of course all its children. As a consequence, it is useless to select a node and one of its children.
    • If, after a node is removed, its parent has no more children, this parent node is removed too.
    • If the root node is selected, it is not removed, but all its children are removed.

Note: Both the Keep and the Remove commands result in a tree where not all content is present, i.e. there can be nodes for which only some of their children nodes are present. In this case, a dot indicator '.' is displayed at the node instead of a '-'.

Center the tree

Enables to center the tree on a selected 3D object's tree node or to center the 3D on the 3D object corresponding to a selected tree node.

To center the tree on a 3D object's corresponding tree node, right-click the object in the 3D and select Center tree.
The object's tree node is centered in the tree and is highlighted.

Note: If the tree was hidden before you launched the command, it will be automatically set to visible.
