About Questions

Tasks are included in some projects and not others because of underlying differences in the project's goals. Questions provide the capability to conditionally include tasks in a project when it is built from a project template. Responses to questions posed during project creation determine the conditions used to control the inclusion of tasks in the project.

About Project Templates

You first create a question having a response of True or False. You can then add a task to a question. When you create a project from a template and choose Questions, it displays a list of all the questions. If you answer True to the question and you had specified True on the question when you created it, the task will be added to the project. If you answer False to the question and you had specified False on the question when you created it, the task will be added to the project. Therefore, it is not a response of True that adds the Task to the project, it is that you matched the answer to the question correctly from how it was created.

To have a question determine whether a task is added to a project or not, you perform these steps:

The question must be added to the template. See Creating a Question.

The task must be added to the template. See About Creating Tasks.

The question must be assigned to the task. See Assign a Question to a Task from a Project Template.

The project template pages provide the flexibility so you can either:

  • add the question and task separately and then associate them (performing all steps above)

Or:

  • choose the task you want to create a question for and create the question within the schedule (performing Steps 1 and 3 simultaneously)

For instructions on adding a task to a project template, see About Creating Tasks. Adding tasks to a template is the same as when you add a task to a project.

A question can be assigned to more than one task meaning that a question can determine whether multiple tasks are included in a project. However a single task can be assigned only one question.
