Editing Basic Information for a Task

The basic information that you can edit for a task includes the name, description, and optional/mandatory status. Project Leads can edit this information for any task in the project's task structure. Task assignees can edit the information for their tasks.

Critical tasks (those that cannot be delayed because they affect the project finish date) are identified in red.

For information about task behaviors and rules for editing, see About Tasks.

  2. From the task's navigation pane, click Properties.
  3. On the Basic Information page, click Edit.
  4. Edit the following as required:

Name. The name of the task.

Policy. The policy governing the task. If a summary task is created with the "Project Task" policy, its policy cannot be changed to "Project Review" if it has a child task created with the "Project Task" policy. If a leaf task is created with the "Project Review" policy, its policy cannot be changed to "Project Task" if its parent task is created with the "Project Review" policy.

Owner. The owner of the task.

Description. The brief description of the task.

Task Constraint Type. The type of constraint for this task, which specifies when the task is expected to be completed within the project.

For Non-summary Tasks, values can be "As Late as Possible," "As Soon as Possible," "Start No Earlier Than," "Finish No Earlier Than," "Start No Later Than," "Finish No Later Than," "Must Finish On," or "Must Start On."

For Summary Tasks, values depend on whether the project schedule is from the start date or finish date.

Task Constraint Date. Constraint types other than "As Soon as Possible" or "As Late as Possible" have a constraint date.

Task Requirement. Indicates whether this is an optional or mandatory task. The system's default behavior requires all tasks, even optional ones, to be completed before the project can be completed. If this isset to mandatory for a task created from a project template, you cannot change it to optional. However, when the value is optional, you can change it to mandatory.

Calendar. You can choose the calendar for scheduling the task. If a task has a calendar connected to it, that calendar is used to schedule the task. If no calendar is connected to the task and the task has only one assignee, the calendar connected to the task assignee's location is considered for scheduling; otherwise, the "Default Project Calendar" is considered for scheduling. For example, if a leaf task has a calendar of "7 working days," and its summary task has a calendar of "5 working days," if the duration for the leaf task is 7 days, the duration of the summary task is 5 days.

Needs Approval. Indicates whether this task requires an approval.

Effort Notifications. Click TRUE to enable email notification when efforts are submitted for approval.

You cannot edit the task duration on this page. See Editing the Task Schedule.

  5. Click Done.
