Managing the Workplan Structure When Balancing Operations

You can protect a workplan structure when you balance operations on a local system structure.

In the context of a local system structure and a central workplan structure linked by a System-Workplan scope, moving operations on the local structure does not impact the workplan structure.

However, operations in the local structure cannot be moved in an operation which has already been balanced from the workplan structure. In this case, an error message displays.

Two resolution methods are available: fine balancing and using the Remove Operation from Structure command.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:

Load content comprising a local system structure and a central workplan structure similar to the one shown in this scenario. There must be a System-Workplan scope between these two structures.

Use the Fine Balancing Method

Before you begin:
  • The Copy model from parent to child Operation option must be selected in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Simulation > Process Engineering > Planning Structure > Configuration.
  • The Resource Assignment Assistant must be deactivated.
  1. Open your content and start Process Planning.

  2. Drag GeneralOperation_2 from GeneralOperation_1 under GeneralSystem_1 to GeneralSystem_2.
The operation is moved in the local system structure. The workplan structure is left intact.

Use the Remove Operation From Structure Method

  1. Open your content and start Process Planning.

  2. Right-click GeneralOperation_1 and select Remove Operation From Structure.

Note: If you right-click GeneralOperation_2, this contextual command is not available for that operation.

GeneralOperation_1 is removed from the local system structure.
  3. Drag GeneralOperation_2 from GeneralSystem_1 to GeneralSystem_2.
The operation balancing in the local system is successful. The workplan structure is left intact.
